hello,,, welcome,,, first of all I would like to know regarding amount of alcohol consumption and pattern- is it daily basis ? If alcohol consumption is daily basis and your husband feels withdrawl symptoms like sleep disturbance, hand tremor in absence of alcohol than it is serious issue. As you have described above pain on walking and bending, it can be linked with vitamin B 12 / other nutritional deficiency as alcohol prevents absorption of above from gut. It may be also linked with peripheral nerve / spinal problems. If I am your treating physician, I would like to know detailed history of alcohol consumption - amount, daily/not, fall, blackout, nausea, hemetmesis etc. I would like to run liver function profile and serum vitamin B 12. After reviewing investigations, I would like to start low dose chlordiazepoxide / lorazepam and nutritional support especially vitamin B complex. Apart from it, I would like to do counceling to enhance motivation to remain abstinent from alcohol. Thanks and good luck for health of your husband...
