What Causes Pain From Fingertips To Armpit And Chest?

Greetings Dr. Rynne, I feel a bit silly asking you this but I was a bit concerned. I m a 59 year old women and have been in good health. Driving home from work I was having pain in my left arm from my fingertips to my armpit and up to the edge of my chest. I ve had this pain before in the past but not this long or strong. it starts with my arm feeling weak and as if something is squeezing it very tight. When this happened in the past it normally will last a short time but this time the squeezing was more intense with and sharp paints shooting under my arm into my breast/chest lasting around 3 minutes. As I stated before, and I m still here so should I be concerned? Thank you for your time and opinion.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi dear. I am your physician, having a vast years long experience in the field of General Surgery, Medicine, Ottorhinolaryngology and Nutrition and weight loss management. I have carefully gone through your case and in my expert opinion it may be of cardiac origin. You need to consult cardiologist as he is trained to help people with these symptoms. He can do EKG, Exercise stress test, thallium scan, Angiography and tell you if (God forbid) any of your heart vessels are blocked. He may suggest angioplasty. If yes go readily for that. Dont be afraid. Its easy and sober procedure now a days.
But your Cardiologist after work up may also come up with the decision that your heart is ok and its just a muscular pain. Go for that treatment regimen once its ruled out and diagnosed properly on careful examination and labs.
Hope you get very well soon. Stay blessed and happy.
