Hi my niece 26 yrs old has pain from shoulder to elbow. Her MRI scan report says mild bilateral uncovertebral overgrowth at C5-6, left greater than right, without significant canal compromise or exit foraminal narrowing. Rest frm C1-2 to C7-T1 are normal.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Padmaja's Response
I can understand your concern. In her case the pain from shoulder to elbow could be due to compression of nerves by the growth at the level of C5-6.For pain relief she can start taking Ultracet twice daily and Methylcobalamine 1500 mcg per day. she must take some precautions as follows *Not to do strenuous activities *Not to use pillow while sleeping *Not to carry heavy weights *To maintain posture so that neck should be straight while reading or while using computer *Can apply hot fomentation in case of mild to moderate pain If her symptoms are not relieved with the measures taken, its always better to see your physician for further evaluation.
