Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain From The Chest To The Back While Suffering From Pneumonia?
I was recently diagnosed with pneumonia. I have moderate to severe pain in my side going around toward my back. The radiologist suggested I have second CT CHEST with contrast. Large round opacity at left lung base with pretrachael lymph nodes. Elevated white blood count. Please advise what you think.
Your CT scan suggests pneumonia. When the pleura are involved, pain is common that gets worse during deep inspiration. Antibiotic treatment is required for the pneumonia to resolve. It usually takes a few days for improvement and 7-10 days for complete treatment in most cases although there are cases that require longer treatments depending on the causative agent.
The most appropriate treatment can only be determined by your doctor. Your doctor knows your medical history and can evaluate your risk for certain pathogens.
I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Regards,
Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis, Internal Medicine Specialist
