What Causes Pain From The Toe Joint To The Ankle?

My husband is having pain in the bone in his large toe starting from the joint and going back towards the ankle. It is swollen and the veins above it are also enlarged. There isn t any bruising and the only thing he can think of is he did some jogging a few times recently. He has been mentioning it for several days and the pain is increasing and the swelling is much more noticeable.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a swollen vein due to the injury. Due to the injury the veins can be twisted. I suggest using cold compresses for local application. I also suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day to relieve the swelling and pain. I recommend to maintain the area immobilized to prevent further damage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
