What Causes Pain In Acromioclavicular Joint?

There is a grinding sound when I rotate my left shoulder. I have a swollen bump at the end of my collar bone. I believe this is the acromioclavicular joint. I can t lay on that side and I have very limited rotation of the shoulder. The pain increases when I attempt to lift my arm back. Swollen Tonsils and nausea. I also have lower jaw and neck pain on my left side under my ears. Any thoughts and suggestions on what this may be?

Hi,

From the symptoms you are describing, it seems that you have hurt your joint knowingly or unknowingly. Swelling is not a good sign. It usually indicates a cracked or fractured bone. Limited movements or painful movements are also a sign of that.

In this condition, I would advise you to visit a orthopedic surgeon for physical examination. He might take an x-ray of the area and find out the cause of the problem. In the meantime, you can take Ibuprofen 400 mg or Paracetamol 500 mg twice a day to relieve pain. These medicines are available over the counter. If you are allergic to these medicines, avoid them.

Additionally, do not try to do movements of the joint forcefully. Avoid applying or massaging any lotion or medicament over the area. Try avoiding pressure on the area by not laying on that side.

If you are having tonsillitis, you can take Azithromycin (Azee) 500 mg once a day for 3 days to resolve the infection in tonsils. You can do supplemental lukewarm salt water gargles to relieve pressure in tonsils.

The pain you are feeling in jaw, neck and ear could be referred pain due to joint pain. Referred pain is the pain that you feel distant to the area of the disease or injury and it goes away automatically when the disease or injury is cured.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
