Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Both upper arms are equally painful when lifted over my head. Started about the same time a few months ago. No injury was involved. Thinking it has something to do with old age. I m 64. Never mind. I didn t want to go in that direction. Please cancel this inquiry.
Your both upper arms are painful when lifted over your head. Your symptoms are indicative of rotator cuff tear, tendinitis, muscle bruises, etc. Other medical conditions that can causes similar symptoms are bursitis, dislocation, broken bones, pinched nerve from herniated disc, heart attack, etc.
You are suggested to get yourself examined by an orthopedist. Get X-ray, CT or MRI done if required. Give rest to the arms, do not unnecessarily strain it. You will be treated with pain relieving medicines, cortisone injections, ice packs and will be referred to a Physical therapist if required for exercises and massage therapy. In case or severe tendonitis or severe tendon tears surgery may be recommended.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
