Hello,

The two of you have a relatively common presentation of what they call an acute viral syndrome. Typically when we see a cluster of symptoms regarding muscle soreness headache intermittent fever and cough we think about one of the classic viruses that cause upper respiratory infections, such as adenovirus or rhinovirus. These viruses can cause a cluster of symptoms such as those. Often times we also see that as the dry cough persists the muscles of the chest wall also become increasingly sore. Some of this is due to coughing itself and sometimes it’s due to what they called costochondritis, which is simply inflammation of the muscles between the ribs.

Since we are in a pandemic currently we do still have to be concerned about the COVID virus. So in that setting I still would advise you to get checked out by your family doctor and tested if they believe it to be appropriate. For the time being Tylenol, ibuprofen, plenty of hydration and rest is about all you can do. Cost presence can also be helpful as well. I’m sorry, I realize how uncomfortable you must be feeling. Please take care and be well.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. David Girardi, Internal Medicine Specialist
