What Causes Pain In Buttocks Radiating To The Foot?
I have an L5 herniation left and central prostitution. I have shooting pain from my left bottocks to the bottom of my foot several times a minute and pain in my lower back. I m on a transdermal patch but the pain is not controlled. When should I go to the ER?
Dear , This is Dr. S.Tomar from healthcaremagic.com's medical team and I will be your medical adviser for this question. Thank you for sharing your concern with us and showing trust on us. Your disc herniation is causing pressure on nerve roots which is causing pain radiation . You should avoid completely to bend forwards and lifting of any weight . Try to reduce your weight and maintain a healthy BMI of 23. You can apply either cold and hot compression pack on affected area , it will help in reducing the inflammation and irritation of nerve roots . If other methods of pain relief are not working then your PCP can refer you to specialist for spinal corticosteroid injections in which strong anti inflammatory agents are directly injected in inflamed area . I would recommend you to consult a good physiotherapist and have regular PT sessions . Thank you for your question and feel free to contact us further for any query or follow up. sincerely, DR.S.TOMAR
