What Causes Pain In Chest And Arms When Diagnosed With Costochondritis?

HI, I AM CONCERNED. Last week I was diagnosed with COSTOSHONDRITIS. I am still experiencing chest pain with pain in the upper left arm from time to time.. Is that normal? I have had an EKG , chest x-ray, and blood labs done and per the doctor, everything looked good.. So with this diagnoses is this normal to have this type of pain that is mostly associated with heart disease?

Hi thanks for asking question.

I can understand your concern.

In ischemic heart disease pain continuous with constricting pain and sweating.so chances are less.but to rule out cardiac problem ECG can be done.

You have diagnosed costochondritis.

Usually it will go away within few weeks.
Main aim here is to pain relief.
Ibuprofen like NSAIDs drug can be taken.
Take enough rest.
Hot compress useful.
The latest treatment that is transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation by adhesive device could be useful after consulting doctor.

Don't worry .it will recover.

If you have repeated viral infection then pain could occur as constitutional symptom.

Avoid stress, as anxiety can aggravate pain.

I hope I have solve your query.

Regards;
Dr.Parth Goswami
