Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My chest hurts every time I swallow food or liquid. At first I thought it was heart related but now I'm not so sure. It is concentrated about 4 or 5 inches above my sternum and radiates ourward. It lasts for a while and then diminishes until the next bite or swallow.
As per your query you have chest hurts every time you swallow food or liquid . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like tumors , conditions that cause the esophagus to narrow , neuromuscular conditions , stroke and GERD ( gastrointestinal reflux disease ) . Smoking or excessive use of alcohol can also cause such problem . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order X-ray of upper digestive track , endoscopy of esophagus and acidity test . Doctor may prescribe proton pump inhibitor and H2 blockers . Doctor may also refer you to cardiologist if he/she find problem to be related with cardiac problem . For now avoid spicy and heavy food specially at night and take proper rest .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
