What Causes Pain In Ear After Removing Hair From It?

I had a hair stuck on my eardrum and the ENT dr. removed it, I also had other tests done hearing, fluid and they were fine but my ear still hurts feels stuffy. Should it still hurts and what can I do to get rid of the pain? Also it has been there for 3 mos and finally a Dr found what was hopefully the real cause.Could there be bacteria there or a stratch on the drum leaving it to still hurt?

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

It seems that you have problem with your eustachian tubes (Tubes connecting middle ear with nose, responsible for pressure maintained between middle ear and atmosphere). Once eustachian tubes are blocked, negative pressure is created with a feeling of blocked ear. Also. due to continues negative pressure, ear drums are retracted. The scars on ear drums point towards any previous infections. Please get the ear assessment from an ENT surgeon and meanwhile follow the management as advised below:
1) Tab Claritin for 2 weeks
2) Xylometazoline Nasal Spray 2 puffs for 7 days
3) Steam inhalation for nose with some Vicks in the water to open up the eustachian tube/sinuses for 2 weeks

The aim of the treatment is to normalize the middle ear pressure which will alleviate your symptoms. In case of any aggravated symptoms, consult your local ENT surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Omair Choudhry, Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist
