Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain in right ear and right side of throat; top of right ear and right hand side of scalp are very tender to touch. I ve taken cephalexin 500 mg 3 x a day for 4 days and an antibiotic ear drop and no improvement is shown. I have little or no fever. The pain in my ear is dull most of the time but is a stabbing pain frequently. My dr is out of town and the dr who prescribed for me said he had nothing more for me. I m allergic to aspirin. Very healthy otherwise, with aches and pains only. I m 80 years old.
As per my clinical experience, pain in ear and right side of throat indicates bacterial infection with some sort of gram positive bugs as strep or others. As there is intake of Cephalexin for 4 days and no improvement, there can be possibility of drug resistance, severe otitis media or other possibilities. Before taking re opinion of your ENT specialist, I would recommend an intake of Diclofenac with acetaminophen after meals for primary pain relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
