What Causes Pain In Ear And Side Of The Face Even When There Is No Swelling?

Hi. I woke up after surgery with an infected salivary gland. I have bee on antibiotics since March 1. It has swelled to the size of a golf ball twice. The swelling is down now but I have a lot of ear and pain down the side of my face. I do not really want surgery but am I causing nerve damage by not doing something. Why is it painful when the swelling is down?

Hi,

It is suggestive of nerve injury during surgery. Based on the history you seem to suffering from the symptoms resulting from nerve injury during surgery on your infected salivary gland. In most cases, this problem is temporary and recovery of nerve function is achieved within the first two months following the surgery. However, a surgical consultation is recommended.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
