What Causes Pain In Fingers, Hips And Back With Family History Of Arthritis?

I am 62 and I retired RN. My maternal grandmother, mother & sister all had rheumatoid arthritis, but they were having symptoms in their 40 s & 50 s. The past few months I am noticing an increase of pain in my fingers, hips and back. I also have painful nodules to the first digits of 4 finger on my R hand. I m experiencing a lot of fatigue. I have taken Tramadol, but it only helps for a few hours. I had an autoimmune blood test done 3 years ago and it was only 1 point above normal. The doctor said everything was ok. I also have numbness to almost all fingertips. Could this be RA even though my relatives got it at a younger age? The ad I selected said free . I just got off another ask a doc site, paid 16.00 and then everything went blank, so I lost 16.00. I won t do that again.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pinful nodules on fingers are suggestive of osteoarthritis rather than rheumatoid arthritis.
rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by deformity of fingers and pain especially in the morning.
Rheumatoid arthritis is more common in females.
Osteoarthritis is an age related degenerative disorder and affects the knee joint, hip joint and joints of hands.
Pain in the hip joint can be due to osteoarthritis.
Pain in the back requires a X-ray and MRI of the back to rule out other possibilities.
Thus, consult your orthopedician for clinical assessment and thus management.

Thanks and take care
