What Causes Pain In Hand With Vein Bulging?

Hi. This is very random, but several times throughout the day I experience a pain in my left hand and one of my veins start to bulge. And at the same time, the top of my right thumb starts to hurt. This lasts for about 5 minutes. Does this make any sense?
