What Causes Pain In Hands And Tingling In Fingertips Inspite Of Having Autoimmune Disease?

My hands started hurting last month. I wake up with pain and cannot make a fist-easily..I can get to a C-shape then I gotta go slow...My SED rate is ~0. I drink alcohol daily and am wondering if its PNF or RA more likely...My Dr. thinks it s related to the alcohol d/t my SED rate. My ANA indicated I am positive for an autoimmune disease. He thinks it s related to the liver. I thought PNF was pain and tingling in the fingertips and toes. He s says this is a misconception. Recently, the tip of my Great Toe on my L ft is burning. Now, I think That is PNF. What do you think about all this. Clearly, no more drinking. Is it too late? You think it could be liver related with the SED rate indicating 0?

Hello,

Mostly your symptoms go in favor of rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, psoriatic arthritis, Sjogrens syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosis SLE, fibromyalgia, reactive arthritis or gout. As you have ANA positive, most probably you may be suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

Treatment options for RA are DMARDs form which is the mainstay of treatment. They help in stalling the progression of disease. They are Hydroxychloroquine, Azathioprine, Sulfasalazine, Methotrexate, Leflunomide, Cyclosporine, Gold salts, D-penicillamine, and Minocycline

These are given singly or in combination with other agents like corticosteroids and NSAIDs for pain relief. Biologic tumor necrosis factor (TNF)–inhibiting DMARDs include Etanercept, Infliximab, Adalimumab, Certolizumab, and Golimumab. Other drugs used therapeutically include corticosteroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and analgesics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Sunny Madar's  Response
Hi,

Check with LFTs and RFTs and B12 levels, RF, anti-CCP, ACPA (for RA). Drop alcohol and anything like that. Is ANA more than 3? Sed 0 can be normal in many cases.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
