What Causes Pain In Hip And Back With History Of Having Laminectomy?

I had a laminectomy, laminotomy, microdiscectomy, and a foramin...something back on May 5th. I was off work for 109 days. I then returned to work Aug 17 for 4 hour days. This week I started working 6 hour days. I am on weight restrictions. I still have back pain, about 3-4 on the scale at L-4, L-5 and S-1. My question is that now I have moderate to severe pain in my left hip and buttock. I don t recall an injury but the pain started after 4 hours of installing ductwork. I didn t lift more than my restrictions but did go up and down ladders and some bending and twisting. Could the hip pain be related to my surgery at L-4 and L-5?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The hip and back pain with history of major spine surgery is related to post opreative stiffness of the ligaments and muscles of pelvis and lower spianl regions. My guidelines at present:
- Do not engage in much stair case movements, sudden, repeated bending, stretching
- Assisted physiotherapy with an expert
- Local application of heating pad
- Caspacin gel
- Supportive analgesic medications as per the need
- Control of body weight and blood sugar

Remain in regular follow up with your spine surgeon for best guidelines in this regard.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
