What Causes Pain In Hips, Lower Back And Foot When Diagnosed With Atherosclerosis?

I have several stents in my iliac arteries and one in my aortic artery. I am having walking issues again but it is a little different than the past. My hips and lower back hurt the most. The back of my calves hurt when you touch them now and I am having pain in the top of my foot. Are these symptoms still atherosclerosis or could it be caused by something else?

HI,

I would like to know if your pain in hips, lower back and the calves occurs more after exertion or even at rest? Since you mentioned that you have a history of stents in aortic artery n iliac arteries, the pain maybe most probably due to decreased circulation due to atherosclerosis. The stents may have blocked if for a longer duration or there maybe new blockages causing the symptoms.

I would recommend you to check your following levels:
Lipid profile
Se Iron
TSH and T4
Ca and Vitamin D
Also after the tests please see a surgeon to assess the patency of the stents and get an angiogram of lower limbs and buttocks region. In case you have any more queries feel free to get an appointment with me.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Preeti Jolly, Endocrinologist
