What Causes Pain In Jaw Radiating Towards Teeth?

I have pain in my left jaw radiating to the left side of my teeth. Saw dentist last week for a tooth ache. Took x-ray but everything looked normal. Gets worse when brushing teeth and eating. Pain is dull most of the time but becomes share after eating.

Hi..
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have gone through your query and can understand your health concerns..

As per your complain and explanation of symptoms it points towards "TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA" which occurs due to any injury or compression to the branches of the Trigeminal nerve which is a fifth cranial nerve and it is the nerve of face and it occurs commonly due to a blood vessel impinging over the nerve and any stimulus like Brushing, eating etc can cause an episode of electric shock like pain..
It can also occur due to some other conditions like Tumors, cysts, Multiple Sclerosis and at times there is no underlying cause for pain..

I would suggest you to consult an oral pathologist and get evaluated..
The doctor can advise you to get an MRI done to rule out the cause of pain..
In case if it is Trigeminal Neuralgia Carbamazepine which is an anticonvulsant and a neurotic painkiller is used as a first line treatment to relieve nerve induced pain..
Other medications that are used as second line treatment are Baclofen, Gabapentin, oxcarbazipine or lamotirgine..
In case if the medicines does not resolve the problem Microvascular decompression surgery or gama knife surgery are a few surgical options.

Hope this information helps..

If you find the answer helpful please give me a Five Star Review and click on found the answer helpful as a token of appreciation..
