I bent down to put something away and there was a sudden pain in my knee. It wouldn t bear weight and felt very unstable. After rest and several days the pain moved from the exterior side of my knee to my calf muscle and now the calf is very sore and swollen as compared to having a severe Charlie horse. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the knee is commonly caused by RA, OA, Baker's cyst, trauma/injury, nerve issues (sciatica), popliteal tendonitis, etc. Sciatica is the commonest cause of radiating pain from the hips, knee to the calf muscles and the legs. Other medical conditions that can cause pain in the calf muscles are Achilles Tendonitis/Rupture, nerve entrapment, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests, thompson test to evaluate the calf muscles, ESR, CRP, urinalysis, imaging tests done. You will be treated accordingly. To ease pain you can take Naproxen or combiflam, one SOS when needed. Stretching and physical exercises under a Physiotherapist is also effective. Avoid addictions (smoking, alcohol, caffeine, etc) if any. Maintain healthy weight. Get treated at the earliest. Hope I have answered your question.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
