What Causes Pain In Knees, calves, thighs And Back?

I am 55, slim built, no disease. For a month, I have stated having pain in my knees. it started with left knee and soon having constant pain in both knees. Sometimes I feel pain in different parts, from thigh to calf mussles and I feel a strong urge as to tie some rope at different places for 1 or 2 minute as it gives me temporary relief. While waking up in the morning, I feel low back pain. No arthritis history in our family. I had been an airlines officer with a quite hectic life. After taking voluntary retirement, I am confined to home, though regularly taking 2-3 kms walk daily. I am taking calcium tablets, voveran 50 mg on my own and applying local pain relieving creams. My urine test is normal. Should I go for blood uric acid or any other test. Kindly prescrible some remedy.

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

What is the knee range of motion? Is it 120-140°? If it is less than the muscles of the thigh are weak. Also, is the pain radiating in nature? If so we need to rule out the nerve impingement with the help of the MRI lumbar spine.

Low back pain and radiating symptoms are all indicative of Lumbar Radiculopathy. And bilateral knee pain indicates the early OA changes in the joints.

With exercises under a physiotherapist will be helpful - static hamstring, static Quadriceps, straight leg raise, ankle toe movements, core stability exercise, spinal muscle strengthening exercises and hip muscle strengthening exercises. You should get some better strength and stability.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
