What Causes Pain In Left Jaw And Underneath Ear After Partial Thyroidectomy?

Hello, I had a partial thyroidectomy ten days ago. Two days ago I began experience pains in my left jaw, underneath my ear. Today, I had my drain removed and within two hours, I was having the worst toothache I have ever had. It seems to be along the gum line on top and bottom on left side. Pain is excruciating. Throbbing. On and off. Nothing helps. Any ideas?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the excruciating pain involving area under left jaw and ear do indicates possible inflammation involving mandibular branch of Trigeminal nerve.

Primary relief with tablet diclofenac or tramadol hydrochloride with antacid after meals. As there is surgical history before 10 days only, it is highly recommended to consult your surgeon immediately for further assistance.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
