What Causes Pain In Left Quadrant And Passing Of Thin Stools?
I m 50 years old female in good health. I have always been a 2 to 3 times a day bathroom depositor. Never had constipation issues and still don t. 2 weeks ago I started hae left lower quadrant tenderness, which at first I thought could be associated to hip pain, but don t feel that is the case now. My fecal deposit has now changed from normal size to french fry size within the last 6 weeks. I had a pelvic ultrasound, as my mother had ovarian cancer at age 50, last week that was negative due to non-visualization. It recommended a CT scan. Please advise. Thank You
Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. Sorry to hear your trouble with your stools. Please note that it is hard to know exactly what is wrong, however, here is what I can tell you that is factual; 1. AT your age, you should have a colonoscopy that is recommended by the American Cancer Society and we doctors follow these recommendations, you have obviously added reason to do this now rather than later. 2. The Left quadrant pain is probably diverticular disease which means that your intestines have out-pouchings that get inflamed, this can be found on CT scan very easily, therefore 3. The CT recommended for your pelvis and to evaluate your ovaries can be the same one used to evaluate the colon. 4. You have 3 good reasons to have testing done and I would start with the CT. The pencil thin stools can be either constipation of a blockage from cancer. I hope this helps and best of luck and thank you for your question.
