What Causes Pain In Left Side Of Tongue After Removal Of Tooth?

I had my #17 molar removed on my left side 4 days ago. I have no pain where the extraction is. I am on an antibiotic 3 times per day. I have been doing salt water rinses. And my numbing shots were put into my cheek area. But the left side of my tongue hurts so bad the I can not eat, drink or even swallow my saliva. The pain is overwhelming. I need suggestions please

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that during extraction of the tooth you were given numbing injection and even your tongue would have got numb..
There is a possibility that during the numb condition you have accidentally bitten your tongue and did not notice as it had no sensation due to numbing..
Other cause can be injury to the tongue with extraction instruments..
I would suggest you to consult your treating physician and get evaluated..
As of now you can apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the painful area of tongue..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Do cool water rinses and suck ice pops..
Take a multivitamin tablet for a week..
Do warm saline gargles, take a soft diet, avoid spicy and hard foods to prevent further irritation and maintain a good oral hygiene..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
