Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Lower Back And Hip While Suffering From Sciatica In Left Leg?
I was having popping and catching in both my hips with very mild sciatica. Then I was in a car accident and now I have severe sciatica down my left back leg. But my lower back and hip is in pain all the time now. I can. Only lay on that hip or lean in that direction, to ease the sciatica. But when I walk, it feels like my hip is just going to break. Epidural injections do not help my back and hip. Just my leg. What should I do? Or could arthritis be the cause?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Sciatica is characterized by pain radiating from hip to back of thigh then to leg and finally to foot. The trauma sustained during accident is probably the cause of aggravation of pain and onset of pain in hip. Since, the pain is not responding to epidural injections, the pain is not nerve related. Arthritis can be the cause of hip pain. Certain investigations and MRI of hip joint may be required to know the probable cause of hip pain. Thus, you need to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment, investigations and thus management. If the arthritis is age related then it cannot be reversed but appropriate management can halt its progression.
