What Causes Pain In Lower Back Radiating To The Left Side?

Hi, I woke up with painful lower back pain that spreads to the left side. Certain positions are very painful. I had some preliminary lower back pain over past month but it hit me this morning. The only movement I made that might have caused it is a stretch, bending at the waist, but doubt this is it. I sit a lot in my car commuting and find this aggravates my back. I have had sciatica in the past but this is not the same kind of discomfort. thanks, Maura

Emergency Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

After reading your post, it seems that your symptoms might be due to spasm of the soft tissue of the lower back.
I would suggest that you should get yourself clinically examined and investigated by an Orthopaedician.
You can take a pain killer along with a muscle relaxant and an antacid for relief from your symptoms.
Further medical management can be planned according to the clinical evaluation by your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. R.A. Singh, Emergency Medicine Specialist
