What Causes Pain In Lower Calf Muscle When With A History Of ACL Reconstruction?

I am expericeing a lot of pain from my lower calf mussle area.a little about my self 53 years old,6 2 280Lbs so I am just a little guy. I have had ACL reconstruct and 2 meniscus clean ups. I work for a local city andhave been a mechanic for most of my life and am always om my feet up till last 5 years doing mostly desk work. anyway back to my knees, I have had my orthopedic surgen say that I need minicus clean up in both knees. But with my job I cant take take time off from November till April, so I thought I could tough it out till then to get them done, as you know with these, you will feel treat for MONTH OR 2 nd then the tear gets hung up and then pain again. So I have been favioring my right side for a while. Thursday I was out trimming trees and doing a burn pile and up on my feet most of the day, Friday my wife and I were getting ready to go camping, we left and it was around 2:00pm, went to station to fill up propane tanks and while I was standing there, My right calf felt like it popped... felt like horrible cramp. hobbled in to pay and hobbled back out and drove to where we were going camping. I have had pulled mussles in my years but tis is now going on 5 days. have been doing incline wedge stretches, rubbing , ice, could this be a blood clot? I think that It is just mussle related but dosent seem to want to let up. Or is it just from favoring my right leg. This is myt Right calf too... but what do you think ??/

Hello,

Your pain related to your calf is usually caused by a cramp or muscle strain. You use your leg so much it could be from overstretching that can cause calf muscle strain. Normally, there is a sudden pain in your calf, and you may feel a pop, snap or tear because you don't use them properly. You can try some treatment like gently stretch or massage the muscle if you think that it is just a muscle cramp. But if you think that it is calf strain you should rest the area, put ice the area for 20 mins, compress the area with bandage, elevate the lower leg. You can take NSAIDs medicine to relieve the pain. However you need to see your doctor rule out serious disease.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
