What Causes Pain In Lower Ribs Along With Vomiting Post Cholecystectomy?

I had my gall bladder removed 18th June by keyhole surgery, the pain this morning feels like an air lock or cramp across the chest lower rib and sturnham. Vomiting appears to help disperse the pain. Is this normal and how long should I expect to suffer such pain? Iris Noble.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the lower ribs with vomiting post choleycystectomy is commonly due to effects of anesthesia, the symptoms subside once the effects are gone. Sometimes when there is injury or damage to the intestine, bowel or blood vessels during surgery, the patients may complain of pain or cramping post surgery. You are suggested to get a follow up clinical examination done by your treating surgeon. Pain in the chest area can be due to gastritis, heart burn or anxiety.

Be careful not to take any food that causes you allergy or to which you are intolerant. It may trigger acid reflux and chest pain. Take antacids and PPIs for relieve. Take adequate rest & stay well hydrated. If you have discomfort get examined by your treating surgeon to rule out bile leakage, any infection, bleeding or injury before the symptoms get worse to stay on the safer side.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
