I quit smoking 7 months ago. since then my lungs hurt when I first wake up in the morning. The same type of raw ache that I would get after I smoked heavily the night before... But Im not smoking. It goes away about an hour after Ive woken up. I still cough up phlegm. is something wrong with my lungs?

Hi welcome to health care magic...

Here you having smoking history and having chest pain complaint along with cough ...

So yes respiratory cause seems most likely here ...(smoking induce)
I want to rule out here ....COPD , Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis like cause ....

For which investigate your case with .....
1.Digital chest x ray PA view
2.Pulmonary function test

By above test cause will be ruled out along with severity ..
Than accordingly management done like steroid or bronchodilator .....
If infection is there antibiotic given...

Your physical examination and auscultation also needed ....

Consult pulmonologist ...

Best regards :
