Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Metatarsophalangeal Joint In Big Toe?
My father is experiencing pain in his metatarsophalangeal joint in his big toe on his right foot. He says when he flexes the toe he feels a burning (like fire) sensation then after flexing he feels numbness in the area. He is not currently breaking in new shoes and has not hit the foot against anything. The burning in my opinion would indicate potential nerve damage or irritation. What do you recommend he do?
Hello dear Greetings Regarding your father's experience with metatarsophalangeal joint with burning sensations at the big toe when flexed I will suggest he has developed a condition called pseudogout
In view of this please do a x-ray of the big toe and serum uric acid level
Meanwhile take any of the following pending the outcome of the result tablet allopurinollyricagabapentin Athrotec
I hope this helps Regards
