What Causes Pain In Middle Of Back Radiating Towards Abdomen?

Over the past several months I have experienced pain that seems to begin in the middle of my back and stab through to my upper abdomen. It lasts only seconds and seems to be associated with gas. I generally burp or am flagulent. I have had an EKG and blood work previously and my heart is fine. The pain is severe during these episodes but quickly abates. I go sometimes weeks between the pains. I have had my gall bladder removed. I am on a cholesterol lowering medication. I had similar pain before I had my gall bladder removed.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

This seems to be due to gastric/duodenal ulcer. It should have to be taken care of to avoid complications. Start with Omeprazole by mouth. It will relieve the pain to some extent. In the meanwhile go for a Gastroentrologist consultation. He may run a battery of tests on you including gastroscopy to look into the matter for conclusive evidence of the cause.

This type of pain may also be due to Hepatic damage due to chronic hepatitis, or more serious cases are due to hepatocellular carcinoma. Consult your Gastroentrologist for complete evaluation and treatment. He will run some blood tests and an ultrasound abdomen. A liver biopsy may also be needed. But Gastroentrologist is a consultant trained to treat your pain and cure the cause of this disease.

Hope I answered all of your health concerns . If you have further questions in future, feel free to contact me anytime. In the start of your question write my name, and I will get back to you in no time. If satisfied, please click you found it helpful.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
