Hi,
The symptoms you describe could have a couple of reasons as per your history. You had an extensive pelvic surgery due to colonic cancer, and also
hysterectomy that may be the cause of aching sensation. That's quite a common side effect especially if you had any
radiation to that region too. Secondly, removal of
lymph nodes can also cause some degree of lymph edema in legs which can cause similar symptoms. I would suggest getting help from a physiotherapist, which should be able to rule out lymph edema and tell you some
massage and exercises to improve circulation and strengthen the muscles. these may help you with swelling and heaviness and improve your mobility.
At the same time, yes you do need to get help for your weight gain. that could have happened from you not being able to proper workout due to disease but it is like a vicious cycle. All the supervised slimming programmes are really worth attending to. Talk to anyone close to you and follow their advise. As for your concern about recurrence, you do not have symptoms to suggest so, apart from
tiredness but its always a good idea to get checked to be sure. It is a simple
blood test which your family doctor can get you. So you don't really have to go to the specialist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Abeera Mehmood, General Surgeon
