What Causes Pain In Rectum?

i have been having sharp, acute pain in my rectum. Sometimes its a shooting pain & sometimes its a dull lingering pain. Either way , a lot of pain. No bleeding , no pain when i have a bowel movement. Hurts to walk or lift leg & picking up stuff. Can you help, please?

Hello,

Probable causes of pain in rectal area are coccydynia or pain at the tail bone, sacrifice joint pain, hemorrhoids, pilonidal cyst, lumbar spondylitis or anal fissure but in this you will have pain while passing stools. Most probably your pain fits into coccydynia or severe pain at tailbone.

Pain relieving medications like tab. Ibuprofen can be taken twice daily for 5 days. Tab. Pantop is to be taken before food once daily for 5 days. Coccygeal pillow is available in any surgicals shop. You need to sit on it whenever you are going to sit. Physical therapy would help relieve the pain. If your symptoms don't come down even after 3 days, do consult a surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
