Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Rib Cage Area Post Intercourse?
I m a little nervous about this question, but here goes. I was having sexual intercourse with my boyfriend. We were in the doggy style position when I hear a pop in my rib cage area and I felt like I had lost my breath for a sec. Does that make sense? Anyway, I ve been having pain in my rib cage area since then (about a week)and I m wondering if I fractured my rib! Please help!
The symptoms that you have mentioned seem to be either costochondritis or diaphragm spasm.
Costochondritis is seen when there is a swelling or injury to the cartilage section or joint of the ribs. This can cause some pain. Usually, icing the area for 10 to 15 mins and using a painkiller gel over the area can help.
A diaphragm spasm may be seen when one is exerting or taking deep breaths. This can cause a pain at the junction of the chest and the abdomen. The pain is usually sharp and lasts for a short time. Post the sharp pain, a dull pain persists that would resolve over time. Stretching and taking deep breaths can help.
In case these do not help with the symptoms, please see a doctor to get an ultrasound of the area to help get to the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
