What Causes Pain In Right Leg Radiating Towards Hip?

A few months ago I was walking outside to the backyard, I wasn t holding anything or moving quickly, when all of a sudden I could not move my right leg high enough, to continue walking because it was painful. I then moved the other leg forward, and it hurt as well. The pain was at the hip, and moving my leg felt as if there were a hundred needles preventing it. Believing it would be better to simply get it over with a took two big steps but the pain got worse, and I could only stand still because the pain was too much. Two minutes later the pain went away. I thought nothing of it, and it didn t happen again until last week when I was making breakfast, again I was not rushed or lifting anything heavy, when my right leg only started to get into a lot of pain near the hip again and I could not move. It only lasted about 3 minutes and the pain was not as bad as before, I have no idea why it happens since it appears to be out of nowhere. I don t do anything to take care of it, and 4 minutes later there is no pain what so ever. Why does it happen? I don t do sports, besides tennis, but never like to put my body through stress.

Hi, If I were your treating Doctor for this case of severe pain under the left rib cage, I would come up with three possibilities, these include:
The first possibility is of nerve origin because it is radiating .Next option could be related to hip bone itself and finally it could be lumbar pain which radiates when there is protrusion or bulge which can compress nerve. Now what needs to be done?
First , an X-Ray Hip and Lumbo-Sacral Spine to rule out any bony deformity and even any lump shadow. It will also show show if there is any renal stone.
Second,if nothing has been in X-Ray film then it is better to go for an MRI of the same region.
Finally,if all come out to be normal then it is most probably a neuropathic pain.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
