What Causes Pain In Right Lower Back While Having Diverticulitis?
I have been sick with this flu that has been going around. I have a sore throat and cough. Now I am experiencing pain in my right lower back. I have a history of kidney stones and I also have diverticulitis. Should I be going to the emergency room?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Kidney stones and diverticulitis can both cause abdominal pain. The pain caused by kidney stones radiates from loin to groin and the pain caused by diverticulitis is mainly concentrated towards lower abdomen left side. Both the conditions need to be managed. I suggest you to consult a surgeon for clinical assessment and to for possible cause of lower abdominal causes. If the kidney stone is big enough, it needs to managed surgically by removal of the stones. If diverticulitis is the cause, then it needs to be managed by taking high fiber diet and by avoiding refined food items.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
