Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Right Side Of Abdomen And Constipation Post Lithotripsy?
I just had lithotripsy yesterday for a kidney stone. Was passing things nicely yesterday and today but this am my bowel slowed to a crawl and eventually stopped completely. Pain lower right quadrant and unusual level of constipation even for me and I have irritable bowel syndrome. Increasing pain in lower right and concerned this may be my appendix
In my opinion you need not worry about appendicitis right now. Appendicitis will have fever and vomiting in addition. Constipation itself can cause the pain you described. If I were your treating doctor, I would have treated constipation first by giving laxatives like bisacodyl (10mg at night) or lactulose (15-20ml three times a day) for 3-5 days.
Only if pain persist after normalising bowel, I would search for other causes. Also, I will advise taking a fibre rich diet and plenty of fluids to prevent constipation recurring. You can try bisacodyl and contact your doctor if no response.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
