Hi Dear ,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.
Thanks for your query . Yes symptoms you mention in query are caused by problem in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) . There can be many reason that can cause problem in TMJ like excessive opening of mouth , wrong movement of jaw during chewing or speaking ,condition like
arthritis or any tooth related problem.
The condyles of TMJ slides on a disc like
cartilage in most of the cases cartilage become inflamed and cause pain and restricted movement.
I would suggest you to
consult dentist for proper examination . Doctor may order X-ray or
CT scan to find ot what exactly causing the problem and treat it. doctor may guide you for correct bite or grinding habit and may give you night guard . He/she may perform procedure like arthocentisis to remove inflammation debris or correct if there is any dental defect.
In some cases doctor may also perform surgery to correct any anomaly.
For now keep warm compresses to affected area several times a day ,take over the counter medicines like
aspirin or
ibuprofen for pain and inflammation and start
physical therapy of jaw .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
