What Causes Pain In Shoulder And Neck Post Experiencing Low Voltage Electric Shock?

My husband had a low voltage electric shock from touching a switch that shorted at work. He was able to move his thumb away from the source almost immediately and was left with a small burn on his thumb. Apart from feeling shocked and a bit sick from what happened he seemed fine. A doctor spoke with him over the phone to ask if he had ever gone unconscious or had any heart palpitations and after being told no said he was fine and didn t need to see him. This happened Tue. Yesterday and today he has had pain in his shoulder and neck.Should he go and see a doctor for a physical exam?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Electric shock can cause spasms of muscles due to internal injuries. Over the counter pain medicine like Ibuprofen can be tried along with vitamin B12 pills OTC as no serious injury was observed after the shock in your husband's case. Take him to his doctor after 3 days for check up to assess healing and need of strong medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
