What Causes Pain In Shoulder Radiating Down The Forearm?

Hi. I have had a pain in my upper arm, shoulder and neck on the left side for a few weeks now. I have gone for a massage (which helped for a bit). I take advil (about 2-3 per day). The pain is moving down to my fore arm and fingers. I went to the doctor and was told to go for a massage. If I pulled a muscle, then I can endure it until it heals itself. Should I be concerned or just let it take it s course...?
