What Causes Pain In Stomach, Chest And Leg With Major Depression?

my husband has major depression and in recent months he has experienced a lot of different pains in his body: stomach, chest and today his leg. He has seen numerous doctors for these symptoms and they all say the pain is coming from his depression. Do you have a different answer?

Hello,

This is quite a common answer to your query. But as you demanded something different, I will try my level best to do that.

Besides being depression, I may like to check other possibilities. I would like to give some tests:

1. Complete Blood Test including RF, Uric acid, electrolytes level

2. Chest X-Ray

3. Liver Function Tests

4. Fasting Blood Sugar

I would like to suggest some medicines:

1. For pain: Ibuprofen 300 mg as when needed

2. For spasmodic pain inside abdomen: Dicyclomine hydrochloride 10 mg when needed.

I would like to suggest medicines for depression:

Sertraline: start with 50 mg once a day. On the 2nd week, 75 mg once a day. On 3rd week 100 mg once a day. On 4th week 150 mg once a day. On 5th week 200 mg once a day.

Continue this for 5 more months. Then, you should report us how is your husband.

If required, then, should be continued. Otherwise should be decreased by 50 mg once a day every week and stopped gradually.

I strongly suggest him to go to psychological counseling. Give him a good diet. Maybe vitamin supplements.

Keep him hydrated. Please post the results of the tests so that we can understand is it physical or psychological fully. Do not worry as he is under treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
