What Causes Pain In The Abdomen And Shoulder?

My mother has pain that started in the center of her abdomen and went up into her upper shoulder, by her shoulder blades. She had trouble breathing but is better now. She has nausea. She is overweight, 50 years old, and has a family history with gallstones. Should this require immediate hospitalization?
