My son 12 years old started cross country last week and has been complaining of his ankles hurting him . It has been a week now and his ankles are still hurt him in the back of the ankle and on both sides where the growth plate would be. I have been iceing his ankles and giving him Motrin and it doesn t seem to help. He was fine until he ran a mile the first day into miles a second day .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Such pain in joint after starting the stressful venture... suggests- Wrong posture/wrong footwears, joint inflammation due to stress, inflammation/injury to ligaments surrounding the joint or bone weakness due to calcium/vitamin D deficiency.

Please consult a doctor for proper physical & investigative check up followed by specific treatment. He needs rest, continues with tab. Mortin till he sees the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
