What Causes Pain In The Back During 19th Week Of Pregnancy?
Hello, Doctor. I am 19 weeks pregnant with mine and my husband s third son and I m having these shooting pains in my spine. I feel like the baby is pressing on my spinal column. Sometimes it shoots up towards the base of my skull and I get involuntary twitching. Sometimes it shoots down towards my tailbone and causes a twitch that makes my legs feel like they re going to buckle. I didn t experience this in either of my first two pregnancies, so I googled it to see what I could do to alleviate it, but I noticed that I seem to be the only woman complaining about such a thing so early in the pregnancy. It seems to happen to others in the final few weeks exclusively. Do you think something is wrong? My doctor is away until Thursday.

You are not the only pregnant patient at 19 weeks to complain of back pain radiating to other parts of your body. But regardless, your symptoms sound like they are musculoskeletal and not anything dangerous.
I would recommend using Acetaminophen and warm compresses on your back, as well as massage, and hopefully this will improve over the next week or so.
If not, then when you see your doctor, they can do an examination to make sure there is nothing neurologically wrong or anything else that would need to be investigated further.
