What Causes Pain In The Back Radiating To The Ribs And Chest?

I have pain every morning in both sides of my back. This morning it s in the ribs under my chest. This has been going on for months and is getting worse each day. I also have a wet cough (moderate). I did break a couple of ribs months ago but it was not like this pain. When I breathe in it hurts. Any suggestions.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As there is history of injury before couple of months and the pain is radiating to ribs and chest, it is definitely indicative of partially healed rib injury, costochondral or ligament related pain.
- Local application of heating pad
- Analgesic spray with menthol and camphor
- Analgesic tablets as ibuprofen or diclofenac after meals if no history of drug sensitivity

Follow up with your primary care to check for follow up X-ray and see the internal status of rib healing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
