Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Bladder After Holding Urine For Long?
Just the other day I had to pee really bad but had to hold it for about 20 minutes or so. By the time I got home and went to the bathroom it was really hurting my bladder. Now I am still having pain that sometimes comes in waves that almost compare to having a contraction. Any idea what this could be.
It is not a good idea to hold pee for a long time. It exposes the body to harmful bacteria that triggers UTI, Vaginal infections, kidney stones or sometimes cancer. 1. Drink plenty of water, get physically examined, get Urinalysis done. You may require to get Cystoscopy or CT done to rule out any pathology causing the discomfort. You may need antibiotics. 2. Stay away from addictions of any kind (coffee, alcohol, drug abuse, etc). 3. Avoid stress & anxiety, stay relaxed & switch to a healthy lifestyle.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
