What Causes Pain In The Calf And Numbness On The Toes?

I m a 74 year old male in otherwise excellent health. I m a long time runner and exercise often but recently I developed a calf pain and numbness in the toes overnight. I was walking 3 weeks ago and felt a sharp pain in my lower right calf; I walked home and after resting the pain went away. The next day I went shopping and after a few minutes felt the pain again and now after any walking of more than 5-10 minutes since then it returns. My doctor performed an ecg on my right leg and found no blood clots and nothing showed up in my blood work. I m scheduled to see a vascular doctor in a week. Could there be some nerve damage or can I look into specific reasons for this?

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Based on your description it appears to be a pain known as intermittent claudication. This occur due affection of blood supply to the leg muscles. There may be many reasons why blood supply may be affected, a color Doppler test will be able to identify the blocks and the vascular surgeon can then decide on the line of treatment. Thanks
