What Causes Pain In The Chest And Difficulty In Breathing Post Strenuous Activity?

Last night after playing a basket ball game, my fiancé (age23) was having what seemed to be very bad chest pain & trouble breathing. Also, I woke in the middle of the night to find him covered in sweat and he sounded like he was trying to catch his breath (like after a run). He was continuing to have mild chest pain this morning, and says now (3:30pm) it has finally gone away. Also last night he was also having cramps in his left arm. Is this serious? Can we make an appointment at a doctors office or should he be seen asap?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
It seems that there might be having strain and spasm of inter-costal muscles while playing basket ball giving this problem.
If he is not playing this game regularly but occasional, this problem does occur.
Take some analgesic, muscle relaxant medicine for 2-3 days.
Give rest to muscles.
Ok and take care.
