What Causes Pain In The Chest Immediately After Swallowing A Lump Of Food?

I was eating a sandwich and swallowed a piece too big and felt it go down my throat. It felt like I scratched it and I drank a lot of water. Immediately after I had sharp pains in my chest coming and going, only seconds in between. It s been an hour and in in tears and the pain is in my chest and back. It s the middle if the night and I m thinking about going to the ER and I m normally one to deal with pain. What could be wrong and what should I do? Please help.

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
As you describe it has formed a scratch in the mucosa of the esophagus or there would have a prick of the ingredients.
I advise you to consult a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have a upper gastroscopy for diagnosis.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms omeprazole, domperidone, and anaesthetic antacid gel till the diagnosis is established.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
